The museum, located in Sorrento, was created by a private foundation established by the brothers Alfredo and Pompeo Correale, Counts of Terranova, the last descendants of an ancient and noble family from Sorrento. In their wills, they arranged that the building, the adjacent country and their art collections, housed in the Villa Correale, constituted a museum dedicated to their name. Walking through the rooms of the beautiful home you can admire precious furniture, fine porcelain and rare Eastern European and Neapolitan and foreign paintings.
The property is on three floors, for a total of twenty-four rooms plus the attic, also used as an exhibition area. The art collections of the museum Correale provide a broad panorama of paintings and decorative arts from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century of Neapolitan and foreign origin, an interesting collection of European clocks and finally one of the finest collections of Chinese, European and Neapolitan porcelain from the eighteenth century.
