Home to magnificent villas, extending between a tufaceous cliff overlooking the sea and the Sorrento hills, Sant’Agnello has since 1865 had its territory dividing Sorrento and Piano di Sorrento. The city owes its name to the patron saint who is venerated in the church and reveals the strong agricultural traditions of the area. Sant’Agnello is famous thanks to the English writer Francis Marion Crawford who stayed there for a long time and immortalized the enchanting scenery of the seaside town in many pages of his writings. The five districts that divide the town, Angri, Maiano, Cappuccini, Fontanelle, Tordara-Trasaella are rich of attractions. One should not miss the beautiful panorama from piazza della Marinella and the nearby monastery of the Capuchin friars.
